Introducing Bi-Monthly MPR Broadcasts from Mexico

Montez Press Radio is excited to announce the launch of regular bi-monthly programming from Mexico, curated and organized by independent curator Fabiola Talavera and editor/researcher Leah Whitman-Salkin. Please join us on air or, or better yet, over snacks and drinks at El Cisne for live readings, talks, and performances this Friday and Saturday, February 24th and 25th.

4PM CDMX / 5PM NYC - Kit Schluter: Feast, Fright: Translating Bruno Darío - A prerecorded discussion of an ongoing translation project of late young Mexican poet Bruno Darío whose three books will be coming out in a bilingual edition from Ugly Duckling Presse later this year.

5PM CDMX / 6PM NYC - APRDELESP: Decolonial Jukebox - We'll hear a selection of the sounds soon-to-be-played from a jukebox at the Mexico Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, titled "Utopian Infrastructure: The Campesino Basketball Court." The selection consists of recordings of speeches on decolonization by political actors in Mexico and the rest of the world, all played in their original languages.

6PM CDMX / 7PM NYC - Frieda Toranzo Jaeger with Emilio Gómez Ruiz - Frieda will talk about three paintings by three Latin American painters exploring the critical relevance of their practices, the importance of historical revision, and their influence in her work. Between each painting, there will be prelude, interlude, and postlude by the sound and ceramic artist Emilio Gómez Ruiz, playing live with his synthaetophone. 

7PM CDMX / 8PM NYC - Diego Del Valle Ríos, Gaby Cepeda, and Milagros Rojas: ¿Dónde estamos ante la temida pero ansiada crítica en México? - Curators/critics/writers/artists/poets Diego, Gaby, and Milagros will discuss the possibility and potential of art criticism in Mexico/En este segmento de una hora, Diego Del Valle Ríos, Gaby Cepeda y Milagros Rojas discutirán sobre el panorama y las posibilidades de la crítica de arte en México y establecerán algunos apuntes sobre la potencialidad de la práctica estética.

8PM CDMX / 9PM NYC - Casual Encountersz - Readingz of rage and romance with Sammy Loren, Mario Bellatin, Katie Ebbitt, Amado Cabrales, Sara Martinez, Cristopher Cabello, Milagros Rojas, Jorge Pedro Uribe Llamas, Mark Doten

9PM CDMX / 10PM NYC - Diles que no me maten: Dron 090 - Three fifths of Diles que no me maten will perform ambient and drone music with a harmonium, electric guitar, drums, synthesizers, saxophone, and voice.
